A letter to the Family

Tuesday, September 15, 2009

Peace. From all over the world you come to these two web sites. Over 18,000 have now come. How amazing to be making contact from people in every continent - from north and south of the equator and from so many different languages. PEACE.

When I climbed the mountain of Vermont in the USA, (very small compared to many mountains of the world) I came to the hermitage and made a retreat. Two ideas were strong as I sat in the Lord’s presence.

First, be holy as the Lord is Holy.

Second, be perfect as your Father in Heaven is perfect.

The essence of God is his Eternal Holiness. The angels sing out Holy, Holy, Holy.

The word for perfect is the Greek word “telos” which could also be translated “mature”.

In the hermitage I focused on these two pillars of the spiritual life. My gaze needs to center on the mystery of God who reveals Himself as The Holy. Through out the day in a moment of silence I need to assess the level of my maturity in the present moment - the maturity to discipline my inner self. Amos the prophet wrote in 5:14-15 what Saint Paul will say in Romans – to love the good, hate what is evil.

In the silence of God’s Holiness – may His Peace fill us with hope, joy, and the resolve to be committed to the Good.

Peace my brothers and sisters of the world

Father Patrick Magee FLHF
